Tsunami Fund-Raiser Retrospective

The CAI fundraiser for victims of the South Asian Tsunami was a rousing success. The grand total raised through donations, ticket sales, and silent auction exceeded $16,000. Over 230 tickets were sold for the event and the Asian Cultural Center hall was packed.

Those who attended spoke of a palpably wonderful feeling of community that evening. The tone was set by a superb presentation on the Tsunami’s effects and logistical challenges in relief efforts by Dr. Herman Gruenwald of UAA College of Business, a noted authority in security and transportation logistics.

The authentic Indian dinner prepared through diligent efforts of women from the Indian community was sumptuous and delighted the palates of guests and hosts alike. The evening concluded with a spirited dance performance, featuring a medley of popular Indian styles by Ms. Tina Kianipour.

The funds raised will be donated to aid the relief efforts organized by the Ramakrishna Mission in Southern India, Sri Lanka and the Andaman Islands. The Ramakrishna Mission is one of India’s most respected charitable and educational organizations, with extensive experience in providing flood, famine and other forms of disaster relief. The organization does not discriminate on the basis of religion, caste, nationality, gender or other such criteria.
